Remember the days of real chain letters, real love letters you received in an actual mailbox and paper thank you cards? I love e-vites and social networking sites as much as the next person, but I mourn the loss of formal correspondence all too often.
Enter the eSnailer website, which allows you to type a letter to a friend or relative and will print, envelope, stamp, and send your letter via regular US postal mail free of charge.
From what I know, the person I sent a letter to hasn't received it yet, but that might just be because no one expects snail mail anymore. How is the site free you ask? It's supported by ads, so after you write your letter you will be asked to accept one of their free offers. Paper trails are so vintage geek.

Free is not a good trade off for giving them my phone number and email address. This smells a bit spammy

wouldn't it be better to just write out your own letter? i do that all the time already. like macgirl said - i don't think the savings in postage warrants the spam.
Just like a tdamji said, writing your own letter is better. And more sincere. I do it as a just because. You don't even have to write a letter, have notecards on hand to send (those all in one deals that you can just fold and stick a stamp on with no envelope are always cool). People always like to know they're being thought of, even if it's not with a 10 page missive.

I don't like that I have to provide personal info for advertisements. I have a grandma with no email so I actually looked into sites that do this sort of thing. www.postful.com, www.net2snail.com, and www.cardstore.com are other websites that offer this service. Cardstore is owned by the USPS and has lots of options. net2snail is the cheapest and requires no personal info entered. Postful lets you send emails to them and then they print it out and mail it.
