It doesn't take much to sell me on energy saving gadgets or the fact that we should all be monitoring our energy use, but I'm still unsure what I think about Blackle, a custom Google search that claims to save energy simply "because the screen is predominantly black."
The site's only differing function from Google is the fact that its background is black and the results are white - making it a hard-to-read, but allegedly power-saving, adaptation of the world's favorite search site.
Apparently, the idea for the site was born from a 2007 blog post, Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year, which proposed that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy and the fact that "a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." None of this has been proven, but the creator's of Blackle say they believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Of course, they believe Blackle every time someone loads the Blackle web browser it will remind them to take steps to save energy. Whatever works, right?

Interesting idea...
OMG is this true?? If it is that is soooo cool!
We once had a machine in our repair shop that shut down whenever the client had too much white on the display. It was one of the older ADC Cinema's that draws its power from the G4 itself. The problem was a failing power supply but it was interesting that too much white on the screen was the issue. Sounds plausible to me.
Blackle's a cool idea, and I like the black background...
How is white on black harder to read? Black on white hurts my eyes from the brightness. I always have my screen on the lowest brightness setting because of that.
Hmmm, very interesting. Maybe if igoogle offered a black background they could get in on this!
i like the black background, gives it a sophisticated look
i think the blacks easier to look at rather than the blinding white.
I prefer this one www.Greenergle.com... in my opinion is much prettier to watch and more comfotable to use than that blackle one... also its not just based on one priciple but 10 - the full 10 rules list can be found at:

I just wish every one would obay all 10...
Yes, there are several things going on with blackle, but people tend to forget that there is more need of user interactivity then the stupid blackle itself.
Now the age is of VIDEOS users are not going to shift from google to blackle just like that. There is a site named http://www.yaarii.com that gives the option to search videos as well as as the regular web search. I think I would bookmark this site , because it gives the option to see any video in the same page without moving your ass!
There are around 17 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/

The logo and the name is terrible. I wish they would've kept "Google" as the name.
Black google - Blackl uses renewable energy. That previous website search function was not very advanced. They now use renewable energy at Blackl and an improved search function.
